Origin Festival is South Africa’s premier outdoor Psytrance festival, celebrated for its fusion of music, art, and nature in a breathtaking setting. Imago Visual was responsible for redesigning and developing a custom WordPress website that captured the spirit of the festival while improving functionality for attendees. This included direct ticketing integration, streamlined event information, and an enhanced media gallery to showcase the festival’s rich history. We continue to provide ongoing website updates and maintenance, ensuring the site remains robust and functional year-round.

Challenge
Our primary challenge was to evolve the previous website, maintaining its psychedelic aesthetic while significantly improving user experience. The new site needed to accommodate multiple media-rich elements, including aftermovies and photo galleries, while being highly intuitive for users. The festival’s ticketing process was fully integrated into the site to reduce reliance on third-party platforms, and the design had to ensure flawless performance, particularly during high-traffic periods leading up to the festival.
What we did
- Designed and developed a custom WordPress website that reflects the festival’s dynamic energy, maintaining the original look and feel while evolving the design to offer a more modern and functional experience.
- Integrated Fixr ticket sales directly into the website, allowing festival-goers to purchase tickets without leaving the site, improving conversion rates and reducing user friction.
- Built out an enhanced media gallery system with dedicated pages for each festival year, featuring lightbox image galleries and embedded aftermovies for both the Origin and Beats stages.
- Prioritised a mobile-first design, ensuring the site is fully responsive and user-friendly on all devices, particularly for attendees accessing the site on the go.
- Continuously provide updates and maintenance, especially during high-traffic times, to ensure optimal site performance during key ticket release phases and festival announcements.
