Irma Stern Museum: Capturing Artistic Legacy in Print for the Month of Photography
The Irma Stern Museum at the University of Cape Town hosted the “Still Points” and “Palimpsest” exhibitions as part of the Month of Photography 2012. Tasked with creating posters for these dynamic exhibitions, Imago Visual aimed to intertwine the historic with the contemporary, mirroring the museum’s cultural significance and the innovative works of Tarquin Wyeth and Dylan Culhane.

Challenge
Designing posters that reflect the distinct artistic expressions of “Still Points” by Tarquin Wyeth and “Palimpsest” by Dylan Culhane, while also paying homage to the museum’s heritage. The challenge was to capture the essence of both exhibitions and attract a diverse audience of art enthusiasts.
What we did
- Worked closely with artists Tarquin Wyeth and Dylan Culhane to ensure the posters accurately represented their artistic visions.
- Created poster designs that blend elements of Irma Stern’s legacy with modern photographic art, achieving a visual narrative that appeals to both historical art aficionados and contemporary art followers.
- Employed a design strategy that emphasises the unique features of each exhibition, using a mix of typography and imagery to draw attention and generate interest.
