CIDRI-Africa: Visual Tools for Tuberculosis Meningitis Education
CIDRI-Africa, situated at the University of Cape Town, collaborated with Imago Visual to develop educational materials aimed at simplifying the complexities of tuberculosis meningitis for patients and their families in under-resourced communities. Challenge
The challenge was to create visual educational tools that minimised reliance on textual explanations, making it accessible and comprehensible to all, regardless of language proficiency or literacy levels. The materials needed to be culturally sensitive and easily understandable to effectively convey crucial health information.
What we did
- Developed detailed, culturally attuned illustrations that mapped the patient journeys with tuberculosis meningitis, highlighting key stages of the disease and its management strategies.
- Designed an educational book and accompanying exhibition materials that predominantly used visuals instead of text to communicate critical information, ensuring clarity and engagement.
- Oversaw the printing and distribution of these materials, ensuring they were both accessible and practical for use in local townships where CIDRI-Africa operates.
